Ailsa Henderson contributes to report on the rise of Englishness

A new Report by the Institute of Public Policy Research finds Englishness on the rise.

Dr Ailsa Henderson, a Senior Lecturer in Politics, has contributed to a new report by the highly-regarded Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).

The report presents evidence suggesting the emergence of a new kind of Anglo-British identity in which 'Englishness' is a primary source of attachment for English people.

Further, the report suggests that an English identity is becoming increasingly politicised. It presents evidence that the more a person identifies as English, the more likely they are to feel that the current structure of UK governance is unfair. The report has significant implications for the ongoing development of the UK's system of devolution and perhaps a return of the question of distinct English representation and institutions.
